CONNIE STEINMETZ, RETIRED EDUCATOR AND UNION LEADER, ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR STATE HOUSE

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Connie Steinmetz, a retired public school teacher and union leader, has announced her candidacy for Missouri State Representative in the 87th District.

After dedicating 37 years to education and service in the Hazelwood School District, Steinmetz aims to extend her commitment to children and families to the state legislature. "As an educator, I've devoted my career to nurturing the potential in every child," Steinmetz said. "In the House, I will continue to prioritize the needs of our students and middle-class families, putting them ahead of special interests. I firmly believe that every student, regardless of zip code, deserves an education that helps them achieve their full potential."

Outgoing State Representative Paula Brown endorsed Steinmetz, saying, "Connie has spent a lifetime as a tireless champion for the students and families of North County. I was proud to work alongside her in Hazelwood, and I am confident she will be a powerful and effective advocate for our neighborhoods in the Missouri Legislature."

In addition to her 37 years as a classroom teacher, Steinmetz, a lifelong advocate for organized labor and family-supporting jobs, served six years as president of the Hazelwood National Education Association and on the board of the North County Labor Club. As HNEA president, she successfully negotiated raises for the district’s teachers, ensuring students had the support of highly skilled educators.

A Maryland Heights resident for over 14 years, Steinmetz is a proud mother of three and grandmother of four. She is active in her local Kiwanis chapter and the North County Chamber of Commerce. Since retiring from education, she enjoys volunteering as a reading tutor.

After the most recent round of redistricting in 2022, the 87th District encompasses all of Maryland Heights, northeastern portions of Chesterfield, and a small section of unincorporated St. Louis County located between Maryland Heights, Chesterfield, and Creve Coeur. The 87th District includes portions of the Pattonville and Parkway School Districts. It also includes Creve Coeur Park as well as Westport Plaza and much of the surrounding business district.
